View Point

View Point is a collaboration with Sanomasa Manufacturing. Borne of a curiosity about flags interpreted as three-dimensional objects, these pieces ask how perceptions of familiar symbols – and the places they represent – might change once they are rendered as abstract forms in space. Through observation of these sculptures from unfamiliar and shifting perspectives, we hope you will see something new of your own and other countries. Takaoka craftsmen meticulously cast each piece in bronze using the lost wax method. While typically sanded to a smooth finish, we instead chose to retain the rich, characteristic texture of the casting process to honor their craft. Available in two finishes, blackened bronze and partial mirror-polished bronze, each piece is clear-coated and will change over time with handling and oxidation. As a paperweight or simply an objet d’art, we hope you find inspiration in this piece’s myriad “view points.”

佐野政製作所のコラボレーションで誕生した「View Point」。  

「平面の国旗を立体化したらどうなる？」という好奇心から生まれた置物です。上から見ると国旗、角度を変えて見るとスタイリッシュなデザインが楽しめます。様々な角度でものを観察する必要性を感じる昨今。自国、他国を新しい角度で見つめて、 今までとは違う何かを感じ取っていただけたら嬉しいです。

「View Point」は、鋳造の工程で生まれる表情をあえてそのままに。通常は仕上げで取り除くところを鋳物の良さとして残しています。富山県高岡市の職人が、ロストワックス鋳造にて丁寧に手作業で製作している為、一つ一つに個性があります。

透明コーティングをしていますが、年月を経て風合いが変化する様もお楽しみください。黒染め仕上げと一部を鏡面研磨したものの２種を展開。
